Eleven Oclock Christian

There's a time in every Christian's day when it gets tough to be a Christian. For me it's around 11:00. I seem to forget how much God has blessed me. Even though I know I'm still a Christian at that time, I just feel weak then. This devotion is my way of getting myself back on track once 11:00 comes around. I hope it ministers to you when your 11:00 hits.

I always thought "forgive" was a strange word. Not that it sounds funny, just that it seems to imply the passing on of something from one to another. Forgiving a loved one for something they've said or done doesn't give them anything. On the contrary, the forgiver is actually taking something from the party at fault: guilt. The forgiven person passes the burden on to the forgiver. Somtimes a person will claim to forgive, but bring it up later; guilt can be given back.

The way I see it, to truly "forgive" is actually to "fortake." When we come clean and ask Jesus for forgiveness for of our sins (1John 1:9), we're not asking Him to give us anything; we want Him to take our sins away. The good news is that he does take them away. He takes away our sin from us and he doesn't hold them against us later. We have to remember he has "fortaken" away our sins and He's not going to give them back.
